The four main modules are taught over four days. The “Phylogenetic Inference” module offers a theoretical background and hands-on experience in phylogenetic analysis for those who have little or no prior expertise. An “Evolutionary Hypothesis Testing” module is targeting participants who are well familiar with alignments and phylogenetic trees, and would like to extend their expertise to likelihood and Bayesian inference in phylogenetics, coalescent and phylogeographic analyses (‘phylodynamics’). A “Next Generation Sequencing Analysis” (NGS) module will cover the more complex analysis of full genomes and huge datasets of pathogens with a focus on Next Generation Sequencing data. The first time the VEME will have a new module intitled “From Trees to Public Health Policy” which aims to support decision-making for public health managers in the face of surveillance, to better prepare to respond to epidemics and pandemics. On the fifth day, participants can chose among 7 half-day modules. They cover specific topics: Large Phylogenies, Transmission Cluster Investigation, Molecular Adaptation, Visualization of Large Phylogenies with Metadata, Recombination and Networks and Virus Analysis Tools.
